Polarimetry is an analytical technique for characterization of optically active compounds. It is frequently used for quality control of pharmaceutical drugs and prescriptions. Polarimetry is also used for research applications and sugar measurement.
A polarimeter is the basic scientific instrument used to make these measurements, although this term is rarely used to describe a polarimetry process performed by a computer, such as is done in polarimetric synthetic aperture radar.
International sugar scale (°Z) is used for sugar measurement and polarimeter is essential instruments for this procedure.
Many optically active materials used in food additives, flavoring and perfumes, the polarimetric analysis is widely applied.
Polarimeter is widely used for educational puposes in the field of physics” and “Applied science” course for understanding polarized light, optical active substances, and optical activity.

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of Polarimeter digital

1. Prepare the ingredient and equipment that are needed.
2. Connect the cable to electricity.
3. Pour aqua distillated into polary tube for doing the calibration (air less).
4. Put polary tube into polarimeter digital (between analyser and polariser).
5. Push the R button or L button until the lamp turn on. Then push zero set button.
6. The monitor will show 0,00 scale, that is mean the calibration has been done and polarimeter ready to use for analysis sample.
7. Change aqua destilata in polary tube with sample solution (air less).
8. Then put polary tube into polarimeter.
9. Push the R button or L button to search field perspective. The field perspective are : I-III-II

10. After get feeble field perspective, read the scale on monitor.
11. Do the observation several times
